In many companies separate maintenance products are used for practically every application. For example, the hazardous substances cabinet often contains rust removers next to multi-sprays, penetrating oils next to corrosion protection agents and a variety of adhesive lubricants for a wide range of applications. The list could be continued endlessly with greases and miscellaneous cleaners. Reducing the number of different product types is therefore always a pressing issue for maintenance personnel.
The consequence
The result is an almost unmanageable mass of sprays, cans and bottles. Because there is a separate agent for every conceivable application, consumption is naturally relatively low. So the containers remain in storage for an extremely long time until they are finally used up. Not only do they take up space, but they also cause other potential problems. In practice, they are used by employees who sometimes get their hands dirty. As a result the labels also get dirty and are often no longer legible. Mix-ups are therefore easily possible. The fact that it often takes a very long time to use up the maintenance products means that there is a further difficulty. Spray cans can then often no longer be completely emptied. The cause lies in the propellants used in sprays. The longer it takes for the products to be used up, the greater the risk that the propellant gas will no longer be sufficient. This means that a considerable amount of the active ingredient often remains in the container. So the financial factor also comes into play here. After all, you paid for 100% active ingredient and not for 70 or 80%.
The solution
There is certainly no such thing as an all-in-one solution. However, there are maintenance products that can be used relatively universally. The requirement, of course, is that these products must be of premium quality. This is the only way to ensure that the results also meet expectations. It is therefore important to ensure the highest standards when tackling the subject of reducing product variety.
