New regulation of the Hazardous Substances Ordinance (hazard symbols)
In some cases, up to four hazard symbols, but usually at least two (Flammable and Acute Toxicity Category 4) must now be indicated in the safety data sheets and consequently also on the spray cans of hydrocarbon-based maintenance products.
The reason is the recently introduced new rules on hazard labeling for all substances or mixtures that may be dangerous or have harmful effects on humans or the environment.
The Federal Institute for Occupational Safety and Health is responsible for this.
In connection with the revised Hazardous Substances Ordinance of October 1, 2021, occupational safety officers in companies are faced with very labor-intensive and responsible tasks.
Extract from the Hazardous Substances Ordinance:
Section 7, Paragraph 3 Hazardous Substances Ordinance:
(3) The employer shall give priority to substitution based on the result of the substitution assessment pursuant to Section 6, paragraph 1, sentence 2, number 4.
He must replace hazardous substances or processes with substances, mixtures, products or processes that, under the respective conditions of use, are not hazardous or are less hazardous to the health and safety of workers.
In practice, this means, in the example of maintenance products based on KW, that the entire market must be searched to find products that have the fewest hazard labels for the same performance.
The solution:
Just one more danger sign!
